Crisis Talk

Spread of antibiotic-resistant germs as a global crisis

[Translate to English:] Crisis Talks steht groß als Logo geschrieben.

The global increase in infectious pathogens, which are resistant to antimicrobial compounds, is increasingly jeopardising the successes that have been achieved in fighting infections and rendering many standard drugs ineffective. The emergence of antibiotic-resistant pathogens is an evolutionary process, which is being promoted by the often inadequate or incorrect use of antimicrobial compounds, their use in fattening livestock, the release into the environment by agriculture and not least, during livestock production. Infectious diseases due to antibiotic-resistant germs are difficult to treat and at considerable cost, or not at all. Therefore, the spread of antibiotic-resistant pathogens is a man-made problem and thus a “crisis in the making” that needs to be addressed at both the scientific and political level.
