Why do conflicts and incidents repeatedly occur in the South China Sea between China and other littoral states? What interests does the Chinese leadership pursue in the region and what means does it use to enforce them? To discuss these questions, the Centre for Modern East Asian Studies (CeMEAS) at the University of Göttingen will be holding the lecture series "Foreign Policy and Security Challenges in East Asia" this summer term. The series will kick off on May 19 with a presentation by Pascal Abb, Senior Researcher in PRIF's research department "Intrastate Conflict", on the interests, ambitions, and world order conceptions of Chinese foreign policy.
