A Data Set of the Humanitarian Military Interventions After World War II

The German Foundation for Peace Research supports a PRIF pilot study with 20,000 Euro, that will compile a dataset of humanitarian military interventions since WW II

Humanitarian military interventions have been among the central controversies in peace politics since the 1990s.

However, there is a lack of studies that analyze a large number of cases and also the effects of such interventions. This gap is also due to the fact that no reliable data on human military interventions exists.

A new PRIF pilot project promoted by the German Foundation for Peace Research will now develop a documented dataset informing about central aspects of humanitarian military interventions, for instance about authorizing and executing actors, their declared goals and adopted means as well as developments in the target country.

The dataset will also provide the basis for further projects, that will for example look into the reasons for the success or the failure of those missions.

Matthias Dembinski
carries out the project, Thorsten Gromes will act as advisor. Both researchers applied for the funding with the German Foundation for Peace Research. The project is supported with almost 20,000 € for the period of 12 months.
