Airmail from Yemen

Maurice Döring in HSFK-Report 07/2010 about Yemen's fight against terrorism.

Already a while ago, Islamists and terrorists have managed to establish themselves as a parallel power next to the government in Yemen. Since the fall of the Taliban regime in Afghanistan and the dismantling of al-Qaida in Iraq, terrorists have identified Yemen as an ideal fallback position and operational basis. Since 2006, a new al-Qaida organization has been taking shape and neighboring states as well as Western governments are alarmed by this development. Therefore, they are mutually interested in the political, social and economical stabilization of Yemen.

In HSFK-Report Nr. 07/2010 "Airmail from Yemen - a fragile state in the fight against terror" Maurice Döring names causes and effects of Yemen's structural weaknesses and their meaning for the strength of al-Qaida. Finally, the author presents recommendations for a new anti-terror policy.
