Since years the Middle East conflict dominates the headlines and news in Germany. Above all the images of the violent excesses are kept in mind and leave the viewers and readers at a loss.
For understanding the conflict, pupils should know about the historical development and backgrounds. Therefore Berthold Meyer has designed a tuition workbook in cooperation with the Bundeszentrale für politische Bildung (Federal Agency for Political Education).
With help of a worksheet the pupils are asked to solve different exercises. They learn about the emergence and development of the Middle East conflict and also put themselves in the place of the different parties. I this way they get a better understanding of the motivations of the conlifct parties, which argue about the creation of a Palestine State. There are stirrer and people who are working for a peaceful development - on each side of the conflict. This message is important for the pupils to know. In conclusion the class is asked to find a way for a peaceful resolution.
