Companies as Peacemakers?

Andreas Haidvogel analyzes political input of commercial actors in the Ulster peace process

Can companies contribute to peace and security? In the age of Global Governance are even more commercial actors engaged to political processes - also in security policy.

Up to now, commercial actors have had a rather negative connotation in conflict areas. Andreas Haidvogel discusses the possibilities and limitations of the positive engagement of commercial actors in the Ulster peace process. The claims from different stakeholders to a new responsibility of companies in security policy are not fulfiled. There is still a clear allocation of tasks between official and private actors.
