Conover-Porter Award for Africa Yearbook 2011

The Africa Yearbook 2011 received this year’s Conover-Porter Award of the African Studies Association. Dr Christoph Kohl is one of the co-authors

The Africa Yearbook has been published by the Dutch African Studies Centre, the Dag Hammaskjöld Foundation and the German Institute of Global and Area Studies since 2004, showing social and political developments in the Subsahara-African region in country reports.

Since 2008 PRIF researcher Dr Christoph Kohl has been contributing to the book with a country report on Guinea-Bissau.

Having "thorough academic quality", the book "is written in a readily-accessible style," the jury said. This makes it accessible to a wide audience, ranging from students to political practioners. The award, endowed with 300 US-Dollars, will be given to the publishers during the annual African Studies Association conference in Philadelphia.

Since July 2012, Christoph Kohl is research fellow in the research group "The Cultural Dynamics of Political Globalization". Besides his regional focus on Guinea-Bissau he also investigates Security Sector Reform and interethnic integration.
