DFG supports project "International Norms in Conflicts"

Third party-funding for research group at RD VI

The project "International Norms in Conflicts: Contestation and Norm Robustness" (Heads: Nicole Deitelhoff and Lisbeth Zimmermann), conducted by the research group "Contested Normativity: Norm Conflicts in Global Governance" at Research Department VI, deals with a gap in existing norms research.

On the basis of four cases of highly contested norms (Responsibility to Protect, International Criminal Court, prohibition of torture, ban on commercial whaling) the group aims at understanding, in which cases the contestation leads to the strengthening or the weakening of a norm.

The German Research Foundation (DFG) supports the three-year project with a funding of 343,650 Euros.
