Charli Carpenter from UMass-Amherst joins PRIF as a Guest Researcher from March to April 2021

Charli Carpenter is Professor at the Department of Political Science and Legal Studies at University of Massachusetts-Amherst and specializes in international law and human security. Her teaching and research portfolio includes issues such as the protection of civilians, laws of war, humanitarian affairs, humanitarian disarmament, global advocacy networks, political violence, and the role of pop culture in global security. Not only has she published several books and numerous journal articles, she has also served as a consultant for the United Nations, the US State Department, the US Department of Defense, and human rights NGO community. In addition, she regularly contributes to Foreign Policy and Foreign Affairs. Since April 2021, she is director of the Human Security Lab at UMass-Amherst.

Charli Carpenter is joining PRIF’s Research Department “International Security” as a Guest Researcher from March to April 2021. While at PRIF, her research will focus on the laws of war, humanitarian disarmament and human security norms and will bring her together with numerous colleagues working in the same field of interests – both inside and outside PRIF.
