Guest researcher: Elke Krahmann from Brunel University London

Professor Elke Krahmann studies the role of private military and security companies in UN, NATO and EU military operations

Professor Elke Krahmann is working on a 3-year ESRC research project entitled "Markets in the Making of Multilateral Military Interventions (4MI): International Organizations and Private Military and Security Companies (PMSC)".

The project examines the use of PMSCs in the largest contemporary UN, NATO and EU military operations, analysing how international organizations and PMSCs interact and what impact their collaboration has on the achievement of mission objectives.

The project provides new empirical data and insights that will help to assess both the potential and the dangers of expanding the role of PMSCs in multilateral military interventions.

From July2013 to September 2014, Elke Krahmann works closely with the researchers from department III (headed by Professor Dr Klaus Dieter Wolf).

The project is part of Elke Krahmann’s work at Brunel University London and is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).
