Kick-off Workshop of the Leibniz Research Network "Crises of a globalised world"

Representatives of the twenty participating research institutes discussed disciplinary perspectives, the usage of the term "crisis" as well as recent and former crises, their dynamics and opportunities

On 10th and 11th July 2013 the kick-off workshop of the Leibniz Research Network "Crises of a globalised world" took place at PRIF.

Representatives of almost all of the twenty participating research institutes discussed their disciplinary perspectives, the usage of the term "crisis" as well as recent and former crises, their dynamics and opportunities. Above all, several sub-projects were constituted, which will be investigated interdisciplinarily during the years to come. The projects planned deal with nutrition safety, agricultural speculation, crises of political order, the eurocrisis and other financial crises of the past 200 years.

In the course of the discussions, thematic similarities and overlaps have been identified, among which the contraposition of objectivity and social construction of crises has been of high interest. Furthermore, the following research tasks have evolved: research of interaction patterns, control impulses, tectonics of systemic eruptions, mediality of crises, the role of communicative and cultural memory and the role of experts and science.

Even though the research network is still young, its participants are aware of the necessity of regularly exchanging views on methodological approaches. All of the institutes showed a high interest in the planned research and are looking forward to the interdisciplinary cooperation.
