Peace Report 2014 published

Peace researchers demand: The peace project Europe is not over - it has to be strengthened

In their Peace Report 2014, presented at the Federal Press Conference in Berlin on 3rd June, the five leading German peace research institutes call for a realignment of the European neighborhood policy, considering the crisis in Ukraine. The “Peace Project European Union” needs a pan-European security architecture. European arms exports control and migration policy are also critically debated by the peace researchers. Regarding the humanitarian catastrophe in Syria, they appeal to the German government to take in at least 200,000 Syrian refugees. Additionally, the Peace Report addresses the role of religion in violent conflicts, cyberspace as a new zone for warfare and current international crises. Besides the situation in Ukraine, these are the conflicts in Syria, Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The yearbook is presented at political committees, working groups and foundations in Berlin and in Brussels and is supported by the German Foundation for Peace Research.
