In HSFK-Standpunkt 3/2007, Sabine Mannitz pleas for a public debate about the role of the Bundeswehr today

Afghanistan, Africa or Balkan States - in 2007 German soldiers are on mission all over the world. This situation implicates great challenges and raises the question of a new role for Bundeswehr soldiers. Nevertheless, the public dispute is gathering momentum very slowly. Sabine Mannitz examines this question in her HSFK-Standpunkt 3/2007. She also analyzes the transformation of the Bundeswehr from a defense army into an army conducting out-of-area interventions. She explores the consequences for the state, politics and society and their relations towards each other.
