Evils of a Global Past? Tensions between local practices and global politics in genocide commemoration

This project aims to analyze the "multi-directional effects" (Rothberg) which globalized discourses and representations of historical genocides render for current memory practices and politics, on local levels and in foreign relations.
Case studies shall analyze in detail conflictual cases (e.g., the Armenians 1915/16, the Herero and Nama 1904-08). The project will be developed further on grounds of a pilot study in 2020.
