What happens in the interaction process between so-called democracy “promoters” and “recipients” and how do interaction processes matter for the policy outcome? For the month of November, Dr Jeff Bridoux joins Annika Elena Poppe and Jonas Wolff in Program Area IV in a common effort to shed light on this largely neglected dimension in democracy promotion research. Jeff is Lecturer in International Politics at Aberystwyth University and has long-standing expertise on democracy promotion and related issues. His current focus lies in developing a new transdisciplinary agenda on “democracy reception”; a project in which he explores how “recipients” and “non-recipients” of democracy promotion in the MENA region make sense of the concept of democracy. During his time at PRIF, he focuses on a contribution to a special issue project currently pursued by the EDP Network on democracy promotion negotiation. Jeff’s stay at PRIF is sponsored by the EDP Network’s Expert Visit Program. The Network unites researchers pursuing innovative approaches to the study of democracy promotion and is currently funded by the Leibniz Association and headed by Annika Elena Poppe and Jonas Wolff at PRIF.
