Paul Kirchhof, speaker of the Schader Foundation’s senate, justifies the decision on this year’s prize winner: “Nicole Deitelhoff wins the prize due to her research on authority and resistance in global politics in our age, on norms, institutions and their internationalization, on humanitarian law and on the depoliticization of public security services. The award especially honours her work at Peace Resarch Institute Frankfurt which gains in importance, both in academic and practical terms, in these days.”

Besides being Executive Director of PRIF, Nicole Deitelhoff teaches International Relations and Theories of Global Governance at Goethe University Frankfurt and is member of the board of directors of the Frankfurt University’s Cluster of Excellence “The Formation of Normative Orders”. Her research focusses mainly on international institutions and norms, political rule and legitimacy beyond the nation state and forms of international resistance such as opposition and dissidence.

“The Schader Foundation deals with the integration of social sciences and practice – a rare but important issue within the German academic system. Nicole Deitelhoff is a prize winner who shapes essentially social and political debates in the field”, says Birgitta Wolff, President of the Goethe University and member of the board of Schader Foundation. “She really builds bridges! We are very pleased about her award.”, Wolff continues.

The Schader Prize is endowed with €15.000 and will be presented in Darmstadt in May 2017. The prize is given by former awardees who belong to the Schader Foundation’s senate. The Schader Foundation promotes the dialogue between social sciences and practice since 1988. Nicole  Deitelhoff is the youngest award winner to date.
