Focusing on the Islamic State (Arabic name: Daesh) Adel Hawatmeh analyzes how Jordan resists extremist organizations.
His research aims at understanding the basis of the nature of thought and ideologies of extremist organizations. He examines the conditions which give rise to the Islamic State and assesses the threat of the Islamic State posed to communities, minorities and democracy. In addition, Adel Hawatmeh analyzes how Jordan faces this threat, ideologically, politically and militarily.
From the beginning of September until the middle of October Adel Hawatmeh will work closely with Harald Müller from Research Department “International Security and World Order”. His stay is made possible by an University Research Fellowship from German Jordanian University in context of the DAAD program “Train the trainer”.
