On Tuesday, 16th June 2015, the new research series “Crisis Talks”, lead by the Leibniz Research Alliance “Crises in a Globalized World” in cooperation with the Minister for Federal and European Affairs of the State of Hessen, Lucia Puttrich, and the Brussels-Bureau of the Leibniz Association, launched in Brussels. More than 200 representatives from politics and public participated in the first round of this event. The recent event series focuses on a direct exchange between science, European politics and civil society. Being engaged in systematically analyzing concrete challenges, it aims at exploring on how crises are being perceived in the European Union, how to deal with them and what can be learned from former crises situations.
Theme of the launch event was: “TTIP – European Trade Policy in a Crisis”. Against the background of a potential expansion of free trade, consultants from research and politics as well as Prof. Dr. Klaus Dieter Wolf, Deputy Director of the PRIF and spokesman of the Leibniz Research Alliance “Crises in a Globalized World”, discussed and identified challenges, duties and responsibilities for the European Union.
Having received great encouragement, this newly introduced lecture series is expected to continue in November and February, once again focusing on current crises and challenges.
