In September 2023, PRIF welcomes two new visiting professors, Annika Björkdahl and Jonah Schulhofer-Wohl.

In September and November, Annika Björkdahl is Visiting Fellow at the Research Center “Transformations of Political Violence (TraCe)“ and will be based at PRIF. During her stay, she will work on the relationship between gender and peace. In particular, she will examine the backlash against UNSCR 1325 and continue her research on the women, peace, and security agenda from the perspective of political violence.

Annika Björkdahl is Professor of Political Science and Peace and Conflict Studies at Lund University in Sweden. Her research focuses on the spatial turn in peace and conflict studies, memory politics and the cultural heritage of war, peacebuilding and transitional justice as well as norms in international law.

From September to October 2023, Jonah Schulhofer-Wohl is a Visiting Fellow at TraCe. He will support TraCe as a Fellow at Goethe University Frankfurt, following the invitation of Hanna Pfeifer. In his time here, he will build on his research on interventions in civil wars. He will also examine transformations of conflict causes over time.

Jonah Schulhofer-Wohl is a Universitair docent with tenure at Leiden University. In his research, he looks at the interaction between parties to civil war and, among other things, how quagmire can result from the interaction between the warring parties. His first book “Quagmire in Civil War” was published in 2020.
