The award ceremony will take place on July 19 in the Hessian State Representation in Brussels.

With the prize Federica Mogherini is honored for her achievements in her role as mediator in the nuclear deal between Iran and US. Her leadership encouraged the breakthrough in the conflict over Iran’s nuclear program. It was because of the successful outcome of the negotiations that a military conflict in the Middle East could be prevented. Thereby Mogherini contributed greatly to peace and stability in the region and beyond as well as to the importance of the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy.

Since 1993 the Hessian Peace Prize, which is endowed  with €25.000, is awarded to individuals who have rendered outstanding service to furthering mutual understanding among nations and peace. PRIF is part of the Board of trustees and participates in the selection of  the awardees.
