Berlin, 20th January 2017 - During the debate for the proposal “Dem Frieden verpflichtet – Friedens–und Konfliktforschung stärken” the importance of peace and conflict studies was emphasized by all parliamentary groups: scientific expertise and advice are essential for politics.
According to some speakers, the project “Salafism and jihadism in Germany” which was supported by BMBF and coordinated by PRIF together with the German Foundation for Peace Research (DSF), serves as a prime example for relevant and up-to-date research. The interdisciplinary project supplemented the state of research with reliable data, insights into forms of organization and recruitment as well as causes and dynamics of radicalization. At the same time, the project team assessed the need for advice in politics, administration and society and concluded concrete measures of knowledge transfer.
“Our research aims at showing possible solutions for the variety of global and national crisis and conflicts – for that we rely on financial and ideational support”, says Christopher Daase, Deputy Director of PRIF. “That’s why we appreciate the broad consensus which was reflected in the parliamentary debate and the willingness to further strengthen peace and conflict studies.”
