Una Becker (PRIF) and Prof. Dr. Harald Müller (PRIF) co-edited the latest issue of “Die Friedens-Warte (The Peace Watch). Journal of International Peace and Organization”. Volume No. 83, Issue 2-3, on “Arms Control in the 21st Century” focuses on the role of arms control in the 21st century and the chances it still offers despite its postulated decline.

Following a short revival after the end of the Cold War, arms control has more and more declined. It got into a severe crisis when the Bush administration came into office,at the latest, and several scholars even postulated its end. The authors of this volume of the "Friedens-Warte" (The Peace Watch), among others PRIF researchers Una Becker, Prof. Dr. Harald Müller, Elvira Rosert, Tabea Seidler-Diekmann and Dr. Simone Wisotzki, develop a different point of view. For various fields of arms control they emphasize it's importance as an instrument to control and govern international relations in the sensitive field of armament and security policy, although existing control regimes and mechanisms need to undergo crucial changes and adaptations to better fit the changing international order.
