Travelling for Peace?

Susanne Fischer examines the role of tourism businesses in Israel and the Palestinian territories

Peace is essential for booming tourism. Against this background, Susanne Fischer investigates the conditions how transnational and local operating companies in the tourism industry account for peace in Israel and the Palestinian territories.

Systematic comparative case studies of German and Palestinian tour operators show that the business trend is conditioned by the governmental shadow of the hierarchy. Businesses in the tourism industry have become aware of their responsibility and are thus increasingly relevant peace-building actors.
