Processes of radicalization and extremism threaten European societies in many ways. But how do different institutions react to Islamist attacks and what are the societal consequences? What role do socialization and resentment play in processes of (de)radicalization? What characterizes Salafist ideologies?

The RADIS lecture series (in German), entitled “Islamism in Germany and Europe: Societal Dealing with Causes and Effects,” will examine various facets of this complex of topics. Six of the twelve research projects in the RADIS network will each present a current aspect. The spectrum ranges from trends and logics of social and political dealings with Islamism in Germany to the tasks and possibilities of Islamic religious education in the prevention of radicalization to the affective processing of experiences of discrimination and grievance in the immigration society.

The lecture series will be held at both Goethe University Frankfurt and RWTH Aachen University. The series will start on Thursday, April 20 at 6:00 pm (c.t.) in Frankfurt. The lectures in Frankfurt will additionally be livestreamed.

The RADIS network comprises twelve research projects funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) under the funding line “Societal Causes and Effects of Radical Islam in Germany and Europe.” The transfer project RADIS, which is coordinated at PRIF, creates opportunities for scientific networking and exchange between the projects and supports the preparation of research results for the exchange between researchers, professional practice and decision makers.

All information about the lectures can be found on the RADIS website.
