Mapping-Studie zum Diskurs über die Zukunft der NATO
In den Mitgliedstaaten der Allianz wird die Diskussion über die Zukunft der NATO seit dem Gipfeltreffen zum 70 jährigen Bestehen der Allianz verstärkt geführt. Auslöser der Debatte war nicht nur die Kritik des damaligen US-Präsidenten Donald Trump am Bündnis. Auch die Diagnose des französischen Präsidenten Emmanuel Macron, die NATO sei hirntot, verweist auf tiefe Verwerfungen, wie etwa die zunehmend das Bündnis belastende Sonderrolle der Türkei.
Ein zentrales Datum ist der Amtsantritt von Trumps Nachfolger, Joe Biden. Zwar ist nach Bidens Wahlsieg zu erwarten, dass sich die amerikanische Einstellung zum Multilateralismus und den traditionellen Allianzen wieder verändern wird und sich Chancen auf eine Weiterentwicklung des Bündnisses eröffnen. Gleichzeitig bleiben eine Reihe von Problemlagen und ergeben sich neue Herausforderungen. Die wichtigste betrifft das mit Bidens Vorhaben eines Global Summit for Democracy absehbare amerikanische Drängen auf eine stärker global ausgerichtete Rolle der NATO.
Vor diesem Hintergrund und in der Erwartung, dass die Allianz der zentrale Rahmen für die gemeinsame Organisation von militärischer Sicherheit und Verteidigung bleiben wird, unternimmt die HSFK eine umfassende Erhebung zentraler Diskussionsstränge zur Zukunft der NATO und kontroverser Positionen zu diesen Zukunftsthemen in den Mitgliedstaaten der NATO.
